Finding Peace in What Really Matters in Life

I recently watched a film on Netflix called ‘The Life of Chuck’ and it brought up some overwhelming feelings inside of me.
It brought up a wave of emotions:
• A quiet fear about where the world is heading right now
• The deep grief of losing someone you love, and learning to live without them
• And the simple, uncomfortable truth that one day, we will all be gone
And then the question followed: What was your life like? Was it worth living? These questions can feel heavy, but also important. It made me pause and reflect on what really matters in life. Because when everything feels uncertain, that’s often what we’re really searching for, not answers to everything, just a sense of what truly matters right now.
What Really Matters in Life?
What can you do right now to live this life well within your means? We all want to know this, right?
And by “within our means,” I don’t just mean money or circumstances, I mean the reality that life isn’t easy, predictable, or fair. Sometimes life is like a watermelon with barely any seeds, simple and enjoyable. Other times, it’s wasabi, sharp, overwhelming, and unexpected, and gives you tears. Or a pomegranate, juicy but full of seeds, where you’re unsure whether to spit the seeds out or quietly carry on. Wouldn’t we all prefer a nice big juicy strawberry, (without the hungry catepillar, of course) something easy, uncomplicated, and delicious?

But life doesn’t always work that way. We can’t have it all. We can only learn to work with what we have. And that’s often where the real reflection begins. So I started asking myself what really matters in life.
You don’t need to have all the answers. But sitting with the right questions can shift something:

What is truly important to you right now?
You might want to explore your values and even try putting them in order, what matters most, and what matters least.

What is holding you back that you might be able to control?
How are you feeling about yourself?
Do you notice repeating patterns in your life?
Are you feeling stuck?

If you could change one thing right now, what would that be?
Reach out to an old friend?
Start a daily 5-minute routine of slowing everything down and concentrating on your body sensations and breathing?
Say no to someone you would normally say yes to, but deep down you are dreading it?
Or simply, start with a good clearout of old, unused things?
However small it might be, this is your chance to make the first step. Often these small steps can put us onto a brand new path.
When you make a small change, always try to appreciate it, as sometimes it can take a huge effort to do it. We only have this life, right here, right now. So how can we use it in a way that feels meaningful; not perfect, because nothing is, but real?
When Reflection Is Not Enough
Sometimes, reading something thoughtful or even deeply resonating with it isn’t enough.
Sometimes you might notice:
You feel stuck in the same patterns
You’re carrying grief or anxiety that feels hard to process alone
Or you simply want more clarity about your life and direction
That’s where talking to someone can really help. Having space to explore your thoughts, understand your patterns, and feel supported, without judgement, can make a real difference.
Because coming back to what really matters in life is not always something we can do on our own.
