What Is Counselling And How Can It Help You?
What happens in counselling?
I offer a safe, confidential space where you can talk openly and be truly heard.
One important thing to know about counselling is that it is not about being told what to do. Instead, I support you in understanding yourself more deeply so that you can make decisions that feel right for you, as I believe you are the expert of your life.
Many people find that when they have a space where they feel truly listened to and accepted, something begins to shift. Thoughts become clearer. Emotions feel less overwhelming. And slowly, new possibilities begin to appear.
Why feeling comfortable with your therapist matters?
There are many different types of therapy, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and many others.
While the approach can be important, feeling safe, understood, and comfortable with the person you are speaking to makes it much easier to explore difficult thoughts and emotions.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from different therapeutic models to support you in the way that suits you best.
My work is influenced by:
-
Person-Centred Therapy
-
Gestalt Therapy
-
Transactional Analysis
Each of these approaches offers a different perspective, but they all share a common belief: that every person has the capacity for growth, understanding, and change.
Rather than fitting you into a particular model, I adapt the therapy to meet you where you are.
I also incorporate breathwork techniques when appropriate. Breathwork can help you become more aware of your body and emotions and can offer simple tools to support you when you feel overwhelmed or disconnected.
What happens in counselling? Is the Humanistic approach the right one for you?
Let me tell you a little bit, very briefly, about the three types of modalities I use when working with my clients and how it works in the therapeutic settings. There is so much to explore in all three modalities, but in a nutshell:

Person-Centred therapy is based on the belief that every person has an inner drive to grow and move towards their full potential.
However, life experiences can sometimes cause us to doubt ourselves or disconnect from our inner voice.
In therapy, my aim is to create the right conditions where you can feel safe enough to explore your experiences openly. This includes offering empathy, honesty, and a non-judgemental space where you are accepted exactly as you are.
When these conditions are present, many people begin to reconnect with their own sense of worth and clarity.
I believe that many of the answers you are looking for already exist within you. My role is to support you in discovering them.
Sometimes that process can feel like finding your voice again, the one that may have been quiet for a long time but has never truly disappeared.
You Don’t Have to Work It Out Alone
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and it is completely natural to feel unsure.
If you are considering counselling, you are welcome to contact me for a friendly free 15-minute consultation to talk about what you are looking for and whether therapy with me feels like the right fit.
Sometimes the first message is the hardest part, but it can also be the beginning of something important.
If you had a space where you could talk openly and be truly listened to, what might you begin to understand about yourself?”
